Brilliant with the Basics: Part 2-Interviewing (4 CPEs)

Brilliant with the Basics Series

In our Being Brilliant with the Basics series, we revisit the fundamentals every auditor needs with a new perspective for auditing in 2021.  Seasoned professionals and those new to audit can all benefit from being brilliant with these fundamentals.

Brilliant with the Basics – Interviewing

Ever witness a truly gifted interviewer? Impressed by how easily they get people to open up, provide useful information all while seeming to make a new friend?  Want to be one of those interviewers?  While some people are naturally gifted (lucky them!) at interviewing and establishing relationships, the rest of us can learn to do the same.  Auditors obtain their most useful information from talking to people.  Good communication skills make any professional more successful but having solid interviewing are an absolute necessity for auditors.  Excellent interview skills will make the auditor more effective and conversations with the client less stressful.

Interviewing is part science and part art. This session will help auditors understand and start to develop the interviewing skills needed to establish client rapport and gather useful information.

You will learn:

  • How different communication styles impact interviews
  • The art of effective questions
  • The role active listening, properly placed silence and note taking play in good and bad interviews
  • How to properly plan for interviews
